Investment Pieces That Are Worth It
First, let’s talk about what to look for in those pieces of clothing that will stand the test of time in your closet. How do you know if something is worth spending your money on? Here are some key things you can look for.
- Fabric – Choosing a high-quality fabric is key if you want the item to last. Silk, cotton, wool, leather, cashmere…these are all examples of fabrics that if taken care of properly, should last for several years.
- Color – It’s no secret I love to wear a pop of color, but when you are shopping specifically for investment pieces that will last, neutral colors are typically going to be your best bet. Black, grays, tans, navy, and other neutral shades will be the most versatile. Then, you can always mix in other vibrant colors and patterns with other fun pieces.
- Cost – It’s easy to think that by investing in a high-quality piece, you have to spend a fortune…but that’s really not the case. You can find lovely investment pieces without breaking the bank.
- Details – When the focus is on finding high-quality pieces that will not seem dated after a season or two, you’ll want to avoid trendy details. Similar to color, the really shiny, sparkly, over-the-top pieces are SO fun, but you’ll get more wear out of the “quieter” classic pieces.
Chic Blazer
If you already have a black blazer in your wardrobe, navy would be another versatile option. It’s a classic neutral that goes with everything. I often get asked if you can pair navy with black and yep, you absolutely can. This Frame cropped blazer will pair beautifully with black pants, jeans, and skirts, and there’s a matching pair of pants I’m wearing above that creates an elegant suit for the office. When some women see the word “cropped” in the item description, they immediately shy away, but a cropped silhouette helps define the waist and is very chic and sophisticated. And you can always wear a blouse, top, or tee underneath that is longer than the hem of the blazer if you prefer not to tuck in your top. I tried this one in-store and fell in love with the fit and fabric. This piece is worth it!
A blazer is versatile because you can easily dress it up or down. If you need some help with how your blazer should fit, this post is a must read after this one!
