Chic jackets for fall

Black Leather Blazer outfit

#1 | Leather Blazer

Let’s start off with this fabulous vegan leather blazer by Alice + Olivia blazer. It’s one of those fun, standout pieces that really make an outfit pop! It’s perfect for fall because it’s not too heavy, it adds a bit of edge and sexiness to a basic jeans and tee outfit, and come winter, you can layer it under a heavier coat. I also love the versatility of this blazer. I’m wearing it with a pair of leather-looking coated jeans, a cami, and booties, but you can style it over a dress, wear it to work, throw it over a tee and add some cute sneakers…

You can create so many chic fall outfits with just this one piece! If black isn’t your thing, there are gorgeous camel, brown, green, and light neutral leather blazers that would also be perfect for fall. It’s definitely a fall wardrobe workhorse that you’ll wear again and again for years to come.

#2 | Black Blazer

A black blazer is another great 3rd layer option for fall. It’s just as versatile, timeless, and sophisticated as the leather blazer in #1, but a bit less edgy and perfect if you’re not a huge fan of leather. The exact blazer I’m wearing is by Balmain. It’s a pretty pricey jacket and I break down if it’s worth the investment in this post. It really is gorgeous but I know the price point is a little crazy. So, I’ve hunted for the best look-a-likes and I found them… This double-breasted blazer by Express is a really great option for less. And if you want something similar that’s under $100, this Lioness blazer is another favorite. I own both in multiple colors and love them. Obviously, there are some quality differences in hardware, fit, and fabric. But no matter which one you decide on, you won’t be disappointed!

If you missed it, make sure you watch my fall trends video…spoiler alert, this blazer covers one of the trends.

#3 | Leather Moto Jacket

A leather moto jacket just screams fall. What’s ideal about the moto is the shorter length. It gives you more or a defined shape because it creates a waist for you (giving your jacket a little more feminity). This All Saints biker jacket is buttery soft and I love all the edgy hardware and belted detail. When you put on this jacket, it will immediately transform you into the “cool girl”…no joke. If you need to channel your inner bada**, this will get you there in a hurry! Some of my other favorite high-end leather moto jacket brands are IRO  and L’Agence. But you can also find great options at more affordable price points too. Blank NYC has wonderful moto jackets at a great price.

#4 | Leather Jacket/Blazer Hybrid

If you’re not sure whether to invest in a leather blazer or a jacket this fall, this double-breasted vegan option from Evereve is kind of a mash-up of both. It has the structured shoulders and lapels of a blazer but it has a little more of a boyfriend fit and would look lovely unbuttoned and layered over a blouse or lightweight sweater. And, you can’t beat the price tag of $158!

chic trench coat for fall

#5 | Elevated Trench

A trench coat is always on trend but this fall season, a trench with a “twist” is one way to elevate your fall looks into something a little extra! When looking for a trench coat, finding one with interesting design details will take it to the next level.  This Sam Edelman mixed-media trench has a faux leather collar, sleeves, and other accents. The deep green olive color is so flattering on most skin tones. It’s made of a wool blend so it’s not too heavy…perfect for fall. It’s also a little roomy so you can easily layer a blouse, tee, or light sweater under it. You might remember this trench from the NSale when it was marked down and maybe you didn’t grab it before the price went back up. BUT….guess what? It’s on sale again right now for $160!

How To Wear A Cargo Jacket

#6 | Cargo Jacket

Do you remember this cool Rag & Bone cargo jacket? It was one of my go-to’s for fall in 2020. We lived in Spain during the fall of last year, so I didn’t have it with me and it was definitely missed!

I love the neutral color and the looser fit works really well for layering. The length is wonderful if you want to create a slimming look for the hips, butt, and thighs. I also love the olive green color, which is a lot more versatile than you think! The jacket is 100% cotton so it’s breathable and lightweight which is ideal for those of you who might run hot, live in places that have a warmer fall, or if you have hot flashes. The cuffs and waistband are adjustable so you can give yourself more shape and create a waist.

I was able to find it available in a few sizes (and on sale!) here. But this year’s version of the jacket is also gorgeous. If you’re looking for the same look at a lower price, this jacket is a really great option for less.

I think you do a great job of suggesting & explaining how a garment will affect your look. Yes, your price points are not in my range. But I sew and thrift, so your thoughtful writing gives me the principles so that I can apply them in those endeavors.

I’m launching a blog on Jan. 1 and I link to your site from my first post. I refefrence style, and you ARE my favorite style reference. Thanks, Erin.
