Do You Have An Oversized Button-Down?
Every woman needs a button-down in their closet! First, it’s a classic staple and a true wardrobe workhorse. Secondly, you can wear it in all seasons while looking put together and effortless. An oversized button-down adds a little edge to the classic basic and is just as versatile as its timeless counterpart. If you were following me during the summer, you might remember this oversized white button-down and the various ways I styled it here. You can take that same button down and wear it for fall too! And I’m showing you how below…
Don’t forget, I put togeher a capsule wardorbe for fall/winter with all the basics you need this season!

Styling A Button-Down Shirt For Fall!
Wondering how to take that same button-down shirt you order during the summer and style it for fall? It’s simpler than you think! Replace the denim shorts and wedges with some of your other classic fall pieces like a moto jacket, jeans, and boots. It seems so simple… because it is! In this look, I’m wearing an oversized Citizens of Humanity blue and white striped button-down with a pair of basic skinny jeans. I added the perfect 3rd layer… a black leather moto jacket. This moto jacket is one I’ve owned for a while and it’s a little pricey but the quality is so good! And it would make a wonderful gift for yourself this holiday season 😉 To finish off the look, I’m wearing my new favorite pair of black boots by Isabel Marant. They’re a western-inspired style that’s very on-trend right now. But they are SO versatile. I’ve worn them with pretty much everything this fall! You could also throw on a pair of sneakers and wear a tank or cami underneath the shirt and leave it open for a lightweight 3rd layer. This is great if you live in a warmer client and need transitional pieces for fall.
More Ways To Style Your Oversized Button-Down
Let’s talk about some other ways to style your button-down shirts this fall and winter. Also, I linked several options at various price points below!
- Under a sleeveless dress…an unexpected cool layering option and a great way to “winterize” your dresses.
- With a pair of leather or vegan leather pants. And, you can wear it untucked over slim-fitting pants.
- With a mini or midi skirt…try a half tuck. Remember, if you’re wearing a billowy silhouette on top, keep the bottom more fitted to the body.
- Under a blazer for a slightly less casual look that would be great for casual Friday.

LUV this post! I’ll wear almost any white or cream button-down–oversized or tailored. For cooler temperatures try a bandana or scarf at the neck for an instant ZING!–Anne

The Shein ruffle top linked is long sleeve, but in the photo your top is not.
Here is a link to the exact white top I’m wearing, which is no-iron: http://amzn.to/2w4t25q
Not sure what Shein top you are referring to? Maybe in last post??
