IF you are a newsletter subscriber, you know that we have EPIC capsule wardrobe graphics seasonally. These handouts that you can download and print are so helpful visually when it comes to putting together the perfect capsule wardrobe where everything works seamlessly together.
There are a couple of keys to getting your capsule wardrobe right:
1) Pick a Color Story:
In this case (below) I chose neutrals like black, white, ivory, beige and tan. These colors work well for women of all ages and are all very versatile.
2) Choose Basics Wisely:
There’s a reason this graphic takes me 10+ hours to put together… I choose each piece very carefully, weighing fit and versatility as well as quality. You want to spend the majority of your wardrobe budget on basics. 80% on basics. 20% on trends. You can find more really helpful style tips here. Additionally, I’m thinking about sleeves, hemlines and all of the things that help us ladies over 40 feel more confident. (If you want more summer dressing ideas, specifically for covering up your arms, be sure to check out this post.)
For those of you who don’t know what a capsule wardrobe is…it’s basically a collection of essential items that seamlessly integrate together. That means that you can mix and match and wear all of these pieces a bunch of different ways.

I tried to include pieces that are versatile so that you can wear them over and over again. This wardrobe is for summer but I think it could easily transition to fall and beyond! Watch the video for outfit ideas and find all of the links to these items below!

ACCESSORIES
I choose everyday, but impactful gold jewelry. That mixed metal choker is definitely something I plan to order!
SHOES
I picked ALL neutral toned, comfortable shoes. I’m not sure about the beige heels in terms of comfort, but I think they are gorgeous and worth trying!
TOPS & JACKETS
The Retrofete jean jacket runs small. Be sure to size UP. The Veronica Beard blazers run true to size. I bought size 2 in the scuba blazer. L’agence also runs true to size. Consider swapping the tan blazer for a leather jacket if that feels more like your edgy style.
PANTS, JEANS & SHORTS
For a slightly more relaxed fit, size up on Moussy Vintage. I have a mix of 26 and 27.
DRESSES
In the Amanda Uprichard white midi dress, I bought XS instead of small. If you are busty, stick with your normal size.
SWIM
Elan is one of my favorite brands for glam and affordable swim cover-ups. I LOVE Robin Piccone and Becca swimwear for women over 40. Both brands create sexy suits with more modest coverage (but not too modest).

I got the Steve Madden sandals last week after seeing them here. I absolutely love them. They are not something I would usually pick up. I stepped outside of my comfort zone. Thanks for suggesting them.
I am SO glad you love them! Erin xo
