Best Denim Trends
A new pair of jeans can easily breathe new life into your wardrobe, and there is no shortage of edgy and modern styles out there. Pretty much anything goes when it comes to jeans right now…everything from baggy jeans to 90s-inspired jeans to split hems and more. If you’re looking to spice up your jean-drobe (jean wardrobe), I’m sharing the best denim trends and some of my favorites below…
If you’re looking for more of the best 2022 trends, make sure you check out this post.

Trend #1) Super Wide-Leg Jeans
One of the biggest denim trends is super wide-leg jeans. Actually, any sort of baggy jeans are on-trend right now. But the wide-leg jeans are definitely the most flattering on all body types. These dark-wash, high-rise Paige jeans are super versatile and SO flattering…I’m talkin’ legs for days! They do have a 31.5” inseam, which is perfect for me (I’m 5’4”) with heels but might not work if you’re really tall.
By the way, these jeans are on sale right now during the NSale. If you’re looking for more NSale favorites and outfits, you can find them all here.

Trend #2) Split Hem Jeans
Split hem jeans have been on-trend for a while but now we’re even seeing them on baggy jean silhouettes, cut higher, and with even cooler details. These EB Denim jeans have a baggy straight leg, two-tone raw hem, and of course, the on-trend split hem. These are super high rise (12”) and have a 32” inseam.

Trend #3) Lighter Wash Denim
For so long, dark wash denim was pretty much the only denim you saw. Now, we’re seeing lighter wash denim and I LOVE it! These Moussy Vintage jeans are a really pretty light wash and have the on-trend split hem and distressing. If you’re an email or YouTube subscriber, you know how much I love Moussy jeans…the fit is amazing, the denim is super high-quality, and the length is always perfect on me. These have been a heavy hitter for me this summer and will transition perfectly into fall.

Trend #4) Flare Jeans
Flare jeans have been around for a while but we’re seeing more and more of them recently. These jeans I’m wearing by Mother are magical…just trust me! Almost everyone on Team Busbee has ordered them, we’re all different sizes and body shapes, and these jeans are super flattering on ALL of us…it’s like that old movie, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants!

Trend #5) Deconstructed Jeans
Deconstructed denim and jeans can be anything from raw hems to asymmetrical waist details to jumbo cuffs. Basically, anything that looks like it was taken off or added to the jeans to make them look interesting. These Agolde straight-leg jeans are the perfect example with their criss-cross waist detail and raw hem! The shape of these also fit into the baggy, 80s and 90s-inspired denim trend.
More Denim Trends
Of course, these 5 styles are only a few of the MANY denim trends happening right now. If none of the above were calling your name, here are a few others…
- Puddle Jeans – These are oversized jeans with excess fabric around the ankles that create the “puddle” effect.
- Barrel Jeans – Also known as balloon leg jeans!
- Patchwork Jeans – These have printed fabrics sewn into the denim.
- Low-Rise Jeans – I will probably be skipping this trend but if you don’t like high-rise jeans, low-rise jeans are back!
- Colorful Denim – This is a really fun trend but could be difficult to style. I’ve seen pink, purple, green, and yellow options out there.
- Cargo Jeans – This one will be difficult to wear because the added pockets on the legs will add bulk.
- Trouser Jeans – Very 80s-inspired with pleating and built-in belts!
- Straight-Leg Jeans – I’m calling it now, straight leg jeans will never go out of style!
- Acid Wash – If you’re missing the 80s acid wash jeans, now is your time.

Love your videos Erin. Thanks for the inspiration and fun approach. I’m a rectangle too with a similar size & taste (bit older & smaller budget!). I just found an amazing pair of split hem jeans but most of my footwear looks wrong. Can you recommend a few ideas? They’ll need a heel as they are a bit long.
You are THE sweetest, Joanne! Here are some great options at a lower price point:
I hope that helps! ~Erin xo
Where are those rockin shoes you are wearing in the split jeans segment the platform crisscross ones? Thanks
Glad you like them, Cuqui! There’s a limited quantity so I’ll give you a few links.
Here they are in black! 🙂 xo https://rstyle.me/+rMlwQWsN5BSW2rrMXcgpKA
Hi Erin..love all your looks. I went to the mall..first time in a long time. I was surprised to see our mall remodeled along with most of the stores and it was busy. A couple was playing classical music for tips in the middle of the mall. On the young girls I saw cropped tops and big belled denim or even baggy joggers. I saw a lot of straight leg denim and flared…did not see hardly any skinny jeans .
I have straight and flared..would like to get split and big bells next. The cutest thing I saw was at Old Navy. T was a gorgeous dress.. It reminded me of a dress that you would wear in Spain…beautiful, and colorful but it was in plus sizes only..darn.. THANKS Erin you look gorgeous in all the styles.
I would love to try out some of these Premium denim jeans , but .. at 5′ ft 9 in. they are too short , or rather the length is ok in the summer months , but for winter ,,, i prefer a bit longer , they need to have at least 31in inseam…. Frustrating !! the only jean i have found is Sole Society , do you happen to know of any others ? thanks
Look at FRAME, L’Agence, American Eagle, LOFT (carries tall) ASOS (carries tall), Levi’s re/done, 3×1, Citizens of Humanity…
Double check inseam length is more than 33″ (standard is 32″ – 33″) works for about 5’7″ – I usually look for 30″ for myself (5’4″). If you are 5’9″ … you probably need 34″ or 35″ inseams. Erin xo
This is great, thank you! How about wide-legged jeans? I think us older women really go for them, and they are so classy and can be dressed up or down.. Thoughts?
Whether they are REALLY in or not.. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE flared jeans!! I will wear them too. Erin xo
