My Honest Review of The Bottega Veneta Chain Cassette Bag

Is This Bottega Veneta Bag Worth It?

If you are a regular scroller on Instagram (yes, I just made up a word)…then you’ve probably seen the Bottega Veneta Chain Cassette Bag in your feed. I think it’s worth noting that while this is the season’s “it” bag, it’s still quite unique. Not everyone has this bag which is something I personally look for when making a major purchase like this. I think there’s nothing more fresh, modern and versatile than a white bag in the summer! With leather, you can simply wipe down your bag, so no need to stress about the color. BUT… with such a hefty price tag, you may be wondering, “Is it worth the money”?? I’m breaking it ALL down for you below.

Bottega Venetta Chain Cassette Bag

The Bottega Veneta brand seems like it has exploded over the past two years. It was founded in 1966 so it’s been around for a while and has always been known for its gorgeous leather pieces. But more and more recently, we’re seeing super trendy and chic pieces from the brand. Including gorgeous bags, shoes, sunglasses, and more! The bag I purchased is the Chain Cassette Bag. The iconic woven leather is very on-trend for the year as well as the hefty gold chain. It has a magnetic flap closure and interior zip pocket. You can also opt for one with a plain leather strap, rather than a chain strap.

Size, Color & Versatility

The size of this bag is great for the essentials. I can fit a wallet, iPhone, lipstick, and sunglasses. I could probably fit more but that’s really all I need to carry so it’s perfect.

This bag comes in a ton of colors, but I have the white with gold chain. I listed out the others below. I also love the Almond and Butter! For those of you who don’t like gold, the bag comes with a silver chain if you purchase Black and/or Spearmint.

In terms of versatility, it really depends on what color you get. The White, Almond, and Black are the most versatile out of all the color options. The chain can also be used as a handle or a shoulder and crossbody strap, which adds versatility. I’ve styled my white bag with jeans, shorts, and dresses (pictured). So it really can be worn with many outfits. I find the bag to be VERY versatile and I’m bringing it with me on our cross-country road trip and to Madrid when we travel there later this summer.

THE VERDICT: Is It REALLY Worth The Money???

The Bottega Veneta Chain Cassette Bag is gorgeous, versatile, and a great, trendy piece to have in your summer wardrobe. If you have the budget, I think it is 100% worth the money. While it is ‘trendy’ …I don’t see the woven, braided leather trend OR the chunky gold chain trend going away anytime soon. The cassette bag is also a standout piece that really adds so much pop to your look!

  1. […] Another tour day in China, I sported the same joggers. (Mistake #2, not packing another pair of pants for the chilly weather in China.) On my top half, I have on a ribbed tank by Splendid that’s super soft, stretchy, and comfortable. I layered my North Face rain jacket over it because there was a high chance of rain, and threw on the Reiss scarf for extra warmth. I completed the look with the same sneakers and a tan Quince crossbody. This crossbody was perfect for the trip and the only bag I brought…I loved the size, weight (it’s light as air), crossbody functionality, versatile color, and fold-over style. The bag also looks very much like a Bottega Veneta bag, only for SO much less money. Plus, you don’t have to worry about ruining it on the trip like I pretty much did with my BV Cassette bag. […]

  7. […] I picked this dress up while on our epic cross-country road trip. It’s seriously a show-stopper.I love every single detail on this dress! It has gorgeous eyelet puffed shoulders. The belted waist is super flattering and I love the luxe gold hardware. It has a trench-style look with the buttons and collar. But the flounce skirt is super feminine. I styled it with a pair of wedges and my Bottega Veneta bag. If you missed my review of this bag, you can check that out here. […]

  8. T. Blackburn says:

Can you talk about the weight of the chain as it seems to be heavy and may hurt if wearing for travel.
Also, I have traveled to Spain and wary of pickpockets and I don’t know if this bag would be good for
that unless you are just going from car to restaurant etc. not necessarily walking around town.
I do love this bag and I agree about how unique it is compared to all the LV out there!

    • Erin Busbee says:

It IS heavy, but the chain is also a key detail that adds SO much to your look. I’m wearing it with basics like a t-shirt and jeans or jeans and shorts. It really makes the look pop! I went with basics on this trip mostly and brought some standout basics to elevate outfits. It doesn’t hurt because you can’t add too much to the bag. If it were a heavy tote, I imagine it would hurt. xo
