Teddy Coat Outfit Ideas
A gorgeous neutral coat is a must-have in every woman’s closet. Whether that’s a wool coat, trench, faux fur coat, blazer, or…a teddy coat. But it’s hard to find the perfect teddy coat that’s not too oversized, still fits over your sweaters, and is chic. And then you have to tackle how you’ll wear it and come up with outfit ideas. Well, don’t worry…I’m sharing SEVEN teddy coat outfit ideas to make styling your teddy coat (or any neutral coat in your closet) much easier!
If you’re looking for winter coats that will keep you super warm in the cold, I share all of my favorites here.
Vince Faux Shearling Coat
First, I want to talk about this gorgeous faux shearling coat by Vince. I love the neutral color and, as you’ll see in the looks below, it’s very versatile! I love the shorter sleeves on this coat…at first, I thought they were going to be too short. But I actually really love them because they help combat the more oversized nature of a teddy coat. Sometimes teddy coats can be too oversized, but this coat is more streamlined, so I don’t feel like it’s swallowing me up. I ordered an XS and still have plenty of room when I layer it with a sweater.

Sweater & Jeans
The first way to style your teddy coat is a very simple, classic outfit combination that’s easy to recreate…a sweater and jeans! I’m wearing a pretty Brochu Walker fair isle sweater. It’s SO soft, comfortable, and cozy. And the colors in it are just so beautiful! I styled the sweater with a pair of AG jeans I’ve had for a few months and wear them all the time. They are straight-leg, super high-rise, and SO easy to style with any kind of shoes. On my feet, I’m wearing an old pair of brown Paige booties. You can wear whatever brown booties you already have in your closet. If you don’t already have brown booties, I linked a similar pair above. Throw the teddy coat on to complete the look and you’re ready to go!

Black Dress & Booties
This second look is a bit sexier but still easy to recreate with any black dress. The dress I’m wearing by ASTR the Label is a sexy show-stopper! The longer length is ideal for women over 40 but I love the fitted silhouette and strappy cutout details on the bust. You don’t need this exact dress to recreate this outfit…but if you’re looking for a new black dress for date night or GNO, this one is perfect! I’m wearing the same Paige booties but you could wear black booties, heels, sneakers, sandals, etc.
Sizing: I’m wearing a size small, and it fits true to size. Order your normal size.

Button Down & Chinos
I wasn’t expecting to love this outfit as much as I do…and I actually had a really fun time styling this look! This Frank & Eileen button-down shirt is super high quality, has a beautiful fit, is very well-made, and the fabric is amazing. It has a slimmer fit and a shorter rounded hemline that are both super flattering. It’s also shorter and higher up on the sides, which makes your legs look longer.
I paired it with a pair of Frank & Eileen chinos that are equally as high-quality and well-made as the shirt. I’ve been throwing these pants on with different tops and sweaters and finding it fun to try them with different, unexpected pieces. When you think of chino pants, you think of them in a more traditional way, styled with sandals or mules, but I love them with western boots and a glam teddy coat. This is just a really cool look!
These Paris Texas boots are a pair I’ve featured in this post. I love the pointed toe, chunky block heel that makes them easy to walk in, and subtle western-inspired stitching. But you could style this look with whatever knee-high boots you already own, ankle boots, sneakers, loafers, mules, etc.

Sweater Dress & Boots
Next up is the teddy coat styled with a cute sweater dress and boots! My Free People dress has a quarter zip neckline, flattering ribbing, and cable knit details, and the length is perfect if you like to show off a little leg. I like my legs, so I don’t mind the length. But if you’d prefer more coverage, you can throw on a pair of tights. (By the way, this dress is selling out fast so if you see your size, grab it while you can.) I’m wearing the same knee-high boots and, of course, the Vince teddy coat! The dress runs true to size.

Baggy Jeans & Cropped Sweater
This look is very similar to the first outfit, but I made a few minor changes that make a big difference! Instead of the longer sweater, I went with a cropped sweater. This IRO sweater has gorgeous details. I love the puff sleeves, unique ribbing, and shorter hemline that takes the guesswork out of whether to tuck it or not. I love wearing this sweater with high-waisted jeans like this pair by SLVRLAKE. They have a super high rise (11”), baggier straight leg fit, and the perfect wash and whiskering. The length is great on me when I’m wearing heeled booties but if you’re shorter (I’m 5’4”) you might need to get them hemmed.

Sweater & White Boots
Next up is a really cool and trendy outfit idea. I’m wearing a pair of Rag & Bone joggers that look like jeans. They are SO comfortable and feel like lounge pants, but they have the look of real jeans printed onto them…cool, right?! I wore these in the car for 18 hours and was so comfortable but felt stylish and pulled together. If these are too trendy for you, swap them for your favorite pair of jeans to get the same look. I’m wearing them with a beautiful ivory Tory Burch sweater that has an amazing fit and pretty ribbing. On my feet are a pair of Schutz boots I own in 3 different colors…yes, they’re that good! Then I finished off the look with one of my favorite chunky necklaces and the gorgeous teddy coat.
Shooting Location
By the way, this super cool shooting location is an art installation outside of Valentine, Texas, about 25 miles outside of Marfa. It’s meant to resemble a Prada storefront and was installed in 2005. I was so excited to shoot here and love the way the images turned out. You’ll see even more on the blog in the next month or so.

Plaid Top & Joggers
For a similar look in a darker color palette, swap the ivory sweater and boots for brown or black. For this look, I’m wearing the same jogger jeans with a pretty brown plaid blouse by Isabel Marant and brown boots. I love the plaid print, puff shoulders, silver buttons, and overall western-inspired look.
