Setting New Year’s Intentions
Do you make New Year’s resolutions each year? Many of us do in some way, shape or form. We make promises to ourselves to break bad habits, embrace good habits, and maybe be more mindful of our health and wellness. The new year and its fresh start is an obvious time to set intentions. But sometimes these resolutions can be a bit intimidating. Most of us feel pretty awful or guilty when we can’t keep up with said self-promises. For some of us, this is simply called “February” ? But, what if your 2023 resolutions were a bit easier to keep, more realistic, and generally a bit kinder on the psyche? This year, we are embracing one-word intentions.
You’ll find Erin’s tips on a healthier start to the new year and ways to motivate your wellness journey, in this post.
What Is A One-Word Intention?
Unlike a resolution, a one-word intention is a theme you wish to practice throughout the personal and/or professional course of your days. It’s a desire or a wish that you establish for yourself. By choosing a particular word, you are letting the universe know what you hope to manifest in the coming year. Here are a few things you can consider when you set out to choose your word:
- What area of your life feels like it needs more love and attention?
- When you picture yourself happy, what is it that you see?
- What attributes do you need to have in order to reach your goals?
- How do you want to feel?
- If someone were to describe you, what words would you want them to use?
- Don’t overthink it. What’s the first word that comes to mind?
REMEMBER: “If you want good things to come your way, you need to start believing that you deserve them.” ~ Unknown
Pledges Vs. Resolutions
By creating a one-word pledge to yourself, you’re creating the framework of a journey more so than a specific goal or outcome. For example, let’s say a typical resolution in the new year would be “I want to be fit and exercise “X” days per week”. That’s a very specific goal. A one-word intention is something you choose in order to create alignment and focus in your life. So, words like “Healthy”, “Truth”, or “Energized” are one-word intentions that define your purpose as it relates to your goals.
Erin’s Intentions
In our efforts to move toward the inwardly driven approach of intention setting (a journey) vs goal setting (a destination) we thought we’d share our personal and professional one-word intentions. So, we’re letting the universe know what we each hope to manifest AND we hope to inspire you to do the same!
Alignment and Expansion are my words both personally and professionally. I feel like I’ve gone through so much transformation this past year. So now I just want to live in complete alignment being my true authentic self. I fully believe that expansion will happen in all areas of my life organically as a result of living wholly, completely, and authentically. AND living an aligned life. What does that look like? Going with the flow, following and embracing feminine energy, setting that “do, do, do”, hustle mentality aside. And thinking about what lights me up. What I’m really passionate about and what brings me the most joy.
I’m looking at every aspect of life through that prism and lens. I plan to focus on what feels like a “hell yes” vs a “hell no”. If it’s a “hell yes” then it’s aligned. Anything that is aligned creates expansion. It might not be right away. But each small decision in an aligned direction, day after day, week after week, can create massive expansion. That is what 2023 is going to be for me!
Team Busbee’s Intentions
Kaitlyn
Intentional – In 2023, I want to be more intentional with my time, words, and choices so that I’m bettering myself and my relationships, and doing things that actually serve me well, nourish my mind and body, and help me grow as a person.
Inspire – Our Busbee mission is always to inspire but I’m looking forward to seeing how we can take it to the next level in 2023. We’re hoping to bring even more content to the table, especially in wellness, to inspire our audience to take an inside-out approach to style.

Celebrate – This will be my first time choosing a word to represent what I hope to be my focus for the coming year. I’ll choose “celebrate”. I’m choosing it for both my personal life and my work life. I love to throw parties for others, birthday parties, gender reveals, and baby and bridal showers to name a few. And, I LOVE seeing how much happiness it brings to my family and friends. But when it comes to me celebrating something in my personal life, or work, I tend to skip right over the celebration part of accomplishments and milestones. I just move on to the next thing or task. So, this year I will try to focus on pausing and celebrating my milestones and accomplishments.

Believe – Earlier this fall when Team Busbee gathered at Miraval for our retreat we all participated in an exercise where we were asked to draw a stone with a word on it from a bowl. The word that I received that day was “Believe”. This is the word that I choose to carry forward into 2023. While I find it easy to believe in others, I often have trouble believing in myself. This stone now sits right on my monitor stand so that I can see it each day and it can serve as a physical reminder on those days that I need it.
Transform – At Busbee Style we talk a lot about transformation especially as it pertains to our wardrobe. In 2023, I look forward to not only my own transformation through learning new skills and developing deeper relationships with team members but also producing content for our audience that is transformative on the inside as well as on the outside. I think all of us at team Busbee will be transforming right alongside the members of our community.

Grace – In 2023, I intend to approach life with grace. Grace for others and myself. Ridding my inner monologue of judgments (mostly about myself) that don’t serve me well. Finding grace in moments that are joyful, difficult, exciting, and scary. And understanding that grace is my foundation for creating peace and happiness.
Serve – Professionally, I’m looking forward to finding new ways to serve this amazing community and inspire other women to appreciate themselves more. Igniting that connection with our readers through our content and helping you push yourself to grow and flourish!

Rise – Selecting a word for the year is often an intentional act for me, but this year I found the word was placed on my heart. In both my personal life and professional, I will strive to rise to the challenges and occasions, rise above difficult circumstances, rise up to meet my full potential, and simply rise each morning with a grateful and peaceful heart. And in everything, I will aim to raise others up. For “we rise by lifting others.” (Robert Ingersoll)
Rachel
Balanced – In 2023, I will be working towards creating balance in all aspects of my life. Some days I feel like I’m in constant motion, jumping from one thing to the next, often overdoing it in many ways – I am sure many of us relate to that feeling… but this one word perfectly captures so many of my goals and how I really want to feel in the coming year.
Connected – Though Busbee Style is already a strongly connected community, I can’t WAIT to see how much deeper of a connection we can create. This group of women on Team Busbee, along with the entire community as a whole is ready to dive deeper and work on the hard stuff, but that first must begin with a sense of security and connection with each other.
